How times flies! In these perilous times we live in, there are times when you can be so busy in daily life and dealing with the demands on your time that you unknowingly neglect the most basic yet essential needs. For example, have you ever been overseeing a large or busy event where you are so concerned with ensuring others have enough food, enough teas and coffees, napkins, comfy seats and generally being at the ready to respond to needs that you forget to eat or drink yourself. It’s only when you begin to feel the weight of tiredness sink in that you realise you need that glass of water, that tea, that coffee to rehydrate. How much more when it’s all being happening on a really hot day!
It’s been a while since I found time to upload on the site but today, I had that sense that I needed to make the time to share the encouragement received from God this morning. By His grace, I hope to upload the good comfort I have received from God from the holy Scriptures through faith in Lord Yeshua.
I was having my usual first morning reading which today was fell to be Psalm 143. As mentioned before, I usually read through the Psalms & Proverbs as my first morning reading, taking one Psalm or Proverb reading day by day, starting from the first psalm reading consecutively through to the end. Psalm 143 is one of those wonderful prayer-psalms of David the king, which I find to be such rich training grounds and great “prompters” in prayer. It was as I read the words “My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah” that I sensed my heart being stirred up. I was made aware then of a longing within – as though a call to come deeper, nearer to Lord Yeshua. Immediately following these thoughts the words of Yeshua at John 7:37 came upon my heart:
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.”
I was so thankful to the heavenly Father for His enabling me to see His invitation , so freely given in and through Lord Yeshua the Son of God, as I read the whole of John 7:37:
‘On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (underlined for emphasis)
This brought to mind the words at Isaiah 55:1a ‘Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters’ and I was then further reminded that the Lord God at Jeremiah 2:13 reveals that He is ‘the fountain of living waters’. This is more fully revealed to us in Lord Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of the Living God in the Scripture, for example, above at John 7:37 and also John 6:35:
‘And Jesus said to them, I am The Bread of Life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’ (underlined for emphasis)
I came to see more clearly why I needed that “invitation”. It is not God’s will that I should ‘thirst’ and if I sense this in me in some area, it is because I need to come nearer to Yeshua. Somewhere along the line, a drift has crept into the heart there. If you thirst, go to Yeshua – now, don’t wait. He bids you to come to Him.
May we all know the grace of God helping us in way ever way may be needed so that we be not deceived into drinking from our own ‘cisterns’ – ‘broken cisterns’ – and think it is His! May we be so helped of God to always drink from the fountain of Living Waters, the Spirit of God in and through Lord Yeshua the Messiah to the glory of our heavenly Father.
Among the many Scripture verses which the Holy Spirit has made precious to me and for me, the words of Psalm 36:9 comes to mind just now:
‘For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.’
Almighty God and heavenly Father, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, thank You for the invitation You so freely give by Your grace for us to ‘drink’ from You, of Your Holy Spirit, by the faith You have given us in Your Son. Glory be to Your name. Thank You for your mercy, and goodness and lovingkindness in revealing to me my need, even before I knew to ask You. To You belongs the glory, worship, honour and praise. Amen.
May the Lord God Almighty bless you and draw you nearer to Lord Yeshua and fill you with His Holy Spirit and His Shalom.
