There will be times, as we run this race of faith in Lord Yeshua, that we would do well to examine ourselves – the differing areas of our lives, at differing times – to see whether we are indeed still in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). This holds not only regarding what we believe and why we believe as Spirit-born believers and followers of Lord Yeshua, but in other areas too. These may include the areas of work, marriage, family, friendships, serving the Lord as one of His ministers both in and through in His Church, our preferences, motivations and pursuits.
Not long ago, having had that sense of being drawn back to re-read a verse in my Proverbs readings that I had read just days before, I realised I had overlooked an annotation made beside it in my Bible which caused me to ponder. The verse was Proverbs 16:25 –
‘There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.’
The annotation I had missed the first time round says this: ‘any way which departs from the Lord will eventually lead to this.’ As I pondered, this truth began the work it was sent to do that day in, to and for me. It also brought to mind the precious truth of the word of the Lord recorded at John 14:6, where Lord Yeshua says of Himself, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ It is a deeply profound truth which continues to give its light of direction to, in and for our lives as we continue on as sojourners in this present life to our intended destination of Home with Lord Yeshua. Continuing on in my ponderings, I ended up also turning to Proverbs 5:21 –
‘For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD,
And He ponders all his paths.’
There are many such passages in the Holy Scriptures which speak on the ways of man and the ways of God. Oh, that we mere humans, would deeply and truly ponder our path, the way we take – and often – and then remember (or come to learn if we haven’t so far) what our Lord also said at John 12:8, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
May we never lose sight of the truth that Yeshua the Lord, Son of the one true God is the true Light by which we will be enabled to see which way we are truly going – until He comes or calls.
God bless you.
