A prayer petition which gladdened and instructed my heart

My Psalm reading this morning was Psalm 141, a Psalm of David.  It is often the case I’m most struck David’s words at verse 3 ‘Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips’ – and with good reason too!  This morning however – and I noted from a previous annotation in my bible, also in January this year – I was struck by David’s prayer petition at verse 8:

 ‘But my eyes are upon You
O GOD the Lord;
In You I take refuge;
Do not leave my soul destitute.’

 It was particularly the word ‘[d]o not leave my soul destitute’ which led my thoughts into the wondrous instruction to my heart, that now, in the Lord Yeshua the Messiah,  it could not pray that last line as is.  As I thought on the Lord Yeshua and what He had accomplished and paid for us through His atoning sacrificial death on the cross and His resurrection and as I thought on some of His promises, it was turned instead into thanksgiving.

Thus, the prayer, from David’s petition which came to my heart was:

‘My eyes are/Turn my eyes upon You, O God the Lord

In You I take refuge

Thank You that s I trust in You, You will not leave my soul destitute

For You have promised never to leave me nor forsake me

Thank You that You are always faithful.

Heavenly Father, I thank You in and through Lord Yeshua

Amen.’

After this, I was reminded of the promise of God in Lord Yeshua to all who trust and obey Him:

‘For He Himself has said,
“I will never leave you
Nor forsake you.”
(Hebrews 15:5b)

 and

“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me,
I will by no means cast out.” (John 6:37).

I praise You Lord Yeshua and may Your name be glorified.  Thank You Lord that You are my soul’s refuge. Amen.

May you who read this know also by the Holy Spirit through faith that Yeshua the Messiah who is Lord is your soul’s refuge and in Him, it can never be destitute.
