Lately, I have been drawn to and repeatedly comforted with the comfort of God in meditating upon the truth recorded at Psalm 24:1. Here David records this truth:
‘The earth is the LORD’s and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein’.
Oh, for this to sink deeper still within – that the light of this truth would fill every place in the soul, heart and mind! How much more then would my soul be at rest in those present personal concerns, as well as those about the growing darkness of world events and things which confound within The Body of Messiah in these times! Meditating on this truth, clearer reminders that God certainly is in control of all things, in all places, at all times is comfort indeed.
Such thoughts brought to mind just then the words of one of the songs of the sons of Korah recorded at Psalm 46.
Carefully consider the words of this Psalm in the light of the truth of David’s statement above:
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
Come, behold the works of the Lord,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
What a breath-taking awesome reminder of the glimpse of the greatness of God given to us, in Lord Yeshua His Son, through the word of God and by the Holy Spirit! It is no wonder then, that king David ends his Psalm at Psalm 24, with such a declaration of the glory of God. Psalm 24:7-10 ends with these thrilling truths of the one true God, the God Israel, saying:
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD [YHVH – the proper name of the God of Israel] strong and mighty,
The LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD of hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah
Hallelujah! Read, with the help of the Holy Spirit, these verses ministers on so many levels.
Thank God that there is mercy with Him and grace also to help us in our ever-deepening need to ‘be still and know [He] is God’ in these perilous and evil times. The one true God – the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – shall surely comfort, help, guide and enable us to do His will as we look to Lord Yeshua, ‘our great God and Saviour’ (Titus 2:13). Amen.
God bless you.
